National AI Challenge 2026 Draws Record Interest

TechIreland’s National AI Challenge 2026—the third iteration of the competition—will bring together approximately 300 participants from across the island of Ireland. The challenge is free to enter, and applications closed on 9 August 2026, with more than 200 people registering within the first eight days.

Two-Week Development Sprint Culminates in Regional and National Events

Participants will engage in two intensive weeks of remote development before presenting their work at coordinated regional events on 14 September 2026. The competition is supported by more than 10 regional innovation hubs across the country. The national final will be held at the Galmont Hotel in Galway on Thursday 24 September 2026.

Challenge Theme and Focus Areas

The theme of the 2026 National AI Challenge is “AI and Agents: Strategy, Processes and Roles.” Challenge teams will work on areas including enterprise technology, manufacturing, financial services, insurance, health, sustainability, public services, and immersive technology.

Growing Momentum from Previous Years

The competition has seen substantial growth since its inception. In the 2025 National AI Challenge, participants delivered 44 AI projects, with 15 teams reaching the national final—more than twice the number that did so in 2024.
