Nvidia in Talks to Invest in Perplexity AI at $30B+ Valuation
Nvidia is discussing a major investment in Perplexity AI at over $30 billion, following a pattern of licensing-to-equity pivots with other AI firms.
Nvidia Eyes Major Perplexity Investment
On August 23, 2026, The Information reported that Nvidia is in discussions to invest in Perplexity AI at a valuation exceeding $30 billion. However, the Nvidia–Perplexity investment discussions remain unconfirmed by either party.
From Licensing to Equity
Before pivoting toward a traditional equity stake, Nvidia reportedly explored paying billions to license Perplexity’s technology and acquire specific talent. This mirrors Nvidia’s approach with other AI companies: Nvidia executed a similar licensing-to-equity pivot with Poolside in August 2026 and with Groq in December 2025.
Perplexity’s Rapid Growth
Perplexity AI has experienced dramatic valuation growth. The company was valued at $121 million in April 2023. According to Sacra and Tracxn, Perplexity’s ARR climbed from approximately $63 million at the end of 2024 to a range of $450 million to $500 million as of April 2026.
Note: The $750 million ARR figure cited in some external reporting appears to be a conflation with Perplexity’s $750 million Microsoft Azure infrastructure commitment signed in January 2026.
Path to IPO
Perplexity is targeting a 2028 IPO, as confirmed by CEO Aravind Srinivas and CBO Dmitry Shevelenko.
