Anthropic Launches Comprehensive Cyber Mission

Anthhropic launched the Anthropic Cyber Mission on October 8, 2026, introducing two major programs aimed at strengthening cybersecurity across critical infrastructure and open-source software ecosystems.

Critical Infrastructure Defense Program

The Critical Infrastructure Defense Program brings frontier Claude models, on-site engineers, and threat research to providers that protect operational technology. The program’s founding partners include Accenture, Booz Allen, CrowdStrike, Deloitte, Dragos, Hitachi, Insane Cyber, Nozomi Networks, Palo Alto Networks, PwC, and Rockwell Automation.

OSS Scanner: Free Security Scans for Open Source

OSS Scanner offers open-source projects regular security scans from Anthropic’s strongest models, free of charge. The reports are model-generated and sent without human review. Anthropic expects OSS Scanner to achieve a true-positive rate above 90%.

The Defender Advantage Fund (0xDAF), launched in August 2026, supports pilot programs in open-source security and keeps OSS Scanner free.

Project Glasswing Expanded

Anthhropic’s Project Glasswing, which scanned hundreds of widely used open-source projects and privately reported vulnerabilities to maintainers through a coordinated vulnerability disclosure process, was merged into an expanded Cyber Verification Program earlier in the week of October 8, 2026.

Government Cyber Defense Efforts

In June 2026, Anthropic launched a cyber defense program for state, local, tribal, and territorial governments. Since June 2026, Anthropic has offered frontier Claude models and technical support to more than half of all US states.

Anthhropic funded the Python Software Foundation, Alpha-Omega, OpenSSF through the Linux Foundation, and the Apache Software Foundation as part of its open-source security efforts.

Genesis Mission and Future Outlook

Anthhropic is committing $150 million over three years to the Genesis Mission, a federal initiative to accelerate scientific and technological discovery through AI.

Anthhropic forecasts that within two years, AI will favor defense, making it easier to catch bugs before they ship and write fundamentally secure software from scratch.
